Are you a placement agency?

No, we are not a placement agency. We are a government-funded program that provides free job search assistance. This includes career decision making, career planning, job searching skills, job matching, and access to government programs such as Second Career.

Do I have to be on Employment Insurance Benefits to access the services offered?

No, the services are available to to everyone and free of charge.

Do I have to be unemployed to access services?

No you do not. Our Employment Resource Centre is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to use our centre for job search purposes, however, to receive 'assisted services' you must be unemployed.

Do you have information about academic upgrading, high school courses and GED?

Yes we do. We have printed material with this information. Additionally, we can refer you to the appropriate community resources and centres where you can access upgrading and schooling.

Do you have information about colleges and universities?

Yes we do. We have printed resources and most of these universities and colleges use online calendars on each university and college websites.

Do you have job postings, and are they local?

Yes, we have job postings for the local area and we do our best to frequently update them. We subscribe to the local newspaper as well so our clients can review the classifieds. We mainly post local jobs, though we have a list of suggested websites that offer a variety of search engines and job search sites that are local, provincal and national.

I am about to be laid off - can you give me information on how to proceed?

Yes, please feel free to call our centre and book an appointment to speak with an Employment Counsellor who will answer your questions about this service. To register for Employment Insurance you will need to contact Service Canada.

I don't have a computer at home, where can I print off my resume and cover letter?

Our resource centre offers free access to both computers and printers that you can use. We also have a fax machine, photocopier and dedicated telephone line for clients to make local, job search related phone calls on.

Is there a fee for your service?

All of our Employment Ontario services are free of charge. We are funded in part by the Government of Canada.

What are 'assisted services'?

An individual who is receiving assisted services is meeting one-on-one with our staff for a more hands-on approach with their career decision making, job searching, and is able to access applicable government programs, such as Second Career. To recieved assisted services, an individual must be unemployed. It does not matter if you were terminated, laid off or if you quit your job.

Who do I speak to about resumes, cover letters, Second Career, Self Employment Benefit Program, and/or workshops?

We have Employment Specialists that are available to discuss your job search tools such as resumes, cover letters and interview tips. Our Employment Counsellors are available to discuss your Second Career questions or any questions related to career change information. To see an Employment Counsellor please call our centre to book an appointment.
